Check! Checkmate! I’ve cornered your bishop! Take that knight!

To find out what we’re talking about, come to Chess Club at the South Chattanooga branch on Saturdays from 3-4 p.m. Beginning in February, we will have a club for beginners and seasoned chess enthusiasts alike. Together, we will master the board! Chess boards will be provided; however, if you have your own special board, please bring it along!

An essay on the benefits of chess in education from John Hopkins School of Education reinforces the positive effects of chess on young minds, stating that “Eight and nine year-old minds and thinking skills are developing rapidly, and chess teaches higher level thinking skills such as the ability to visualize, analyze, and think critically.”

So whether you’re coming to sharpen your mind or just to learn the basics of chess, this club is for you!

This program is meant for 8-18 year olds. Registration not required. Please call the South Chattanooga branch at (423) 825-7237 with any questions!
